Continuing on the path toward discovering a unique and compelling topic for your college application essay, here are ten more “self-interview” questions.

  1. What’s the saddest thing that ever happened to you?
  2. What did you learn from it?
  3. What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you?
  4. What did you learn from it?
  5. What is the purpose of life, i.e., why are you here?
  6. Have you taken any actions – no matter how small – to fulfill that purpose? What are they?
  7. What did you learn by doing it?
  8. Say someone chats with you for five minutes. What impression would they have?
  9. How would they be right? What would they be missing?
  10. Describe a moment you look back on and say, “Yes, that was me at my best.”
